Just want to throw out my opinion on a topic that has been thrown around. Seems as though many people think the only .mobis with value are those that are somehow tied to mobile devices. For me, those people are totally missing the point.

The point of the .mobi extension is not to have sites available for people who feel "forced" to search the web on their mobile device. The point is to make people realize they "can" search the net from the mobile device. This is a giant leep for most "western" internet users

This extension was created for one purpose, to jumpstart mobile web surfing. Not just for finding maps and news, but to get people to view their mobile device as a source for "information". For people to view their mobile device as the "go to" when wanting information. It has already happened in other parts of the world where more people surf the web via phone then via pc. The .mobi is just bringing this to the western world.

I'm sure many other people here figured this out in time like I did. For those who didn't...

Not only there's this fact (already cited numerous times) of mobile phones/devices outnumbering PCs by 4 to 1, but also that they are with you ALL the time while you're awake...so the companionship between humans and these little web machines would be many times more than with PCs or laptops. Another thing: All .mobi needs is 3-5 years to establish itself as THE tld for mobile surfing, then it really doesn't matter if, with technological advances, the actual experience of mobile surfing is the same as that of PC....some have pointed this out arguing that this would obviate the need of a separate tld for mobile surfing.....as at the end its not the technology but the mindset, familiarity, and habits that count.
