Any .INFO Sunrise or Land-rush losses?

Did you lose, how?

NON-ICANN REGISTRARS
There were many sites not associated with ICANN registrars, charging $xx for pre-registering a name. In 2,002 the public was less savvy about domains. The top search-engine listed site for key words “.info registration” was 100% scam. It had, picture of a pirate, implied they could do it with their means when others couldn’t, and lots of legal gobbledygook - but is wasn’t even a registrar!

About two-weeks before Land-rush an E-mail went out saying scamsite1 went bankrupt. However, scamsite2 bought the database from scamsite1. Scamsite2 would provide the courtesy of registering the same names for the same cost! That is a courtesy?

LAND-RUSH PRE-REGISTRATION $ BEFORE SUNRISE
Land-rush pre-registration $ were taken before the Sunrise. If a single-person improperly obtained the name you were interest in the Sunrise [eg. fake trademark], you and everyone else who paid a land-rush pre-registration fee (at any of the about 190 ICANN registrants) lost it. Losses occurred on pre-registrations of generic names (which couldn’t be trademarked) when someone improperly obtained the name in the Sunrise. There were so many related losses, talk of a law suit against Afilias was abound.

EXCLUSIVE, NON-EXCLUSIVE
One site indicated accepting pre-registrations once on each name. It was costly, but two-weeks before landrush they changed their policy and accepted multiple registrations on names. I did not receive a single name from my registrations with them.

PRE-PAID REGISTRATIONS
Some sites required that you bought Registrations. If they were unable to use the funds on pre-registered .INFO names, you had to use the funds on other services they provided. Not really a scam, but you could pay bucks and get a single .INFO name.

NAMES NOT SUBMITTED?
It was impossible to know if a registrar submitted your name or not.

Land-rush Sunrise Switch
My most costly personal loss was with a costly registrar who only accepted registrations once on each name. No charge if the name isn’t obtained. But the registrar submitted my Land-rush registrations as Sunrise instead with fake trademarks! I was steaming mad.

Did you lose, how? Remember auctions that were supposed to end, but didn’t and continued.

[During .INFO LR2, domains registrars were pretty much prohibited from pre-registration or other fees, so losses were almost unknown.]

I'm glad to say I wasn't in the game back then, and didn't have any pre-authorizations. I am the proud owner of a few .info domains now though.
