Not bad.

Not used very often, although when used I don't come across any problems.

Price is only good thing.....

Apart from the price, 1 and 1 is a very poor domain company, the customer service is poor, its not easy to use, and there arent many good solid features....

excellent

amazing. There are fanastic features and [with hosting] has great domain capabilities.

The hosting is great too. There are only a few problems:

1. Control panel is a bit slow - and gets annoying to use
2. username choices are wierd - they are like: u0193583
3. not manyt features if not hosting.

Not bad for permanent domains

1and1.com is good if you are planning to develop a name and will not be moving or selling it. In that usage, they've been pretty good. They don't have free push to another member, so a lot of domainers want to avoid this. Also a member has to own a domain at 1and1.com before they will have an account.

I would seriously suggest staying away from this company especially if you wish to host a site.

I was originally hosted by this company, I had 2 accounts with them I was late in paying 1 of them yet they shut off both even tho 1 had a few months left on the contract. They then told me to move the accounts even AFTER they had payment (which they kept). I tried obtaining a backup of the database (I had no access so had to use customer support) they kept saying they would send it (I did receive a partial backup but far from complete) After 3-4 months of going back and forward I was finally told that all backups are only kept for something like a month I think it was so I had no chance of getting it back so I basically lost the site even tho it was paid up due to the incompetence of their support staff.

This company are no good dealing with the normal user and should have stayed with what they knew and that was renting out server space to other companies.

The Worst

The worst I have ever used. Even if you transfer a domain away from them you still have to delete the domain from their system which they will only do after they have received a signed fax or they will still bill you for it. Interface is difficult to use if you have many domains. Dont be tempted by the price, you get what you pay for!

Worst Customer Service Ever

Like somebody said, the only good part is the pricing. The customer service is horrible. I had a problem deleting a domain name name from a package(it wouldnt let me do it)..so I emailed them, got basically an automated reply, I then called and the women told me it would just be easier if I emailed them. So I kept trying..and after having to wait 4 days in between for a response, by that time the next billing period had hit and they bill me for another 3 months. Crazy.

If you want the domain there forever, and will NEVER need any customer service..then yeah, go for it.

Rubbish

I thought I would have made another review for these after trying to transfer a domain. It took all of 3 days for me to get in touch with someone from customer service through the phone, after hours of endless "Please Hold" messages. They didn't reply to emails or anything. Interface is REALLY poor and really hard to navigate around. I'd have to say that the best thing is the price, but as they say, you get what you pay for. In this case, poor service.

Avoid Them Like The Plague

Aside from the decent price for domains, the customer service and support at 1and1 are absolutely bottom of the barrel. I recently cancelled several domains and they still insist on trying to charge me for them and threatened to freeze my account and ALL my domains with them.. very shoddy way to treat their customers. Avoid them like the plague!

The price is not worth the major hassles at 1and1 - trust me.

First let me preface this by saying that I appreciate good a customer service department and a good call center. I used to work in one.

1and1 tech support and customer service is SUCH A JOKE! If you call you get an outsourced call center where they just read off of a script most of the time. I think they have one or two people who might actually know what they are doing and the rest of tech support are drones...they just don't get it.

Their control panel is PAINFULLY SLOW and you CAN'T BULK EDIT ANYTHING. It really seems intentional to somehow hold onto your business...i.e. prevent you from making an easy transition to another provider once you discover the price is the bait and their Terms & Conditions, Tech Support, Customer Service, and Billing departments are the trap.

Feel very sorry for me...I have enough names with 1and1 to justify a garage full of aspirin. I bought - I regret.

01/20/06 - Just in case you forgot how absolutely awful 1and1.com is here is another thread about my experiences with 1and1.com

1and1.com sucks

1and1 has a very bad user management interface.

It is very lacking of features, and hence the low price.

Not worth it, go for godaddy.

I have been with 1and1(US) for a little over a year and have had no problems with them. Sure customer service can be better but with the price you pay for what you get something has to give.

Edit of original post-

1and1 sucks and should be avoided at all costs. After a year of great service they screwed me over so badly and then treated me like crap to boot.

It all started with my renewel and cancelation of my package and the domain names I got when I opened the account. After reading a lot about how they did the domain cancelations I decided to cancel all the domais I was not using (25 of the free .info they had given me) and followed their rules EXACTLY. I did the online process and then printed out and faxed them the signature sheets they required.

Well when my year was up on those domains, even though I cancelled them in September, 3 months prior to renewel, sure as the sun rises they were on my renewel invoice at $5.99 a whack. Of course I called them to protest and they told me they never recieved my faxes. That is a crock because my fax machine verifies theirs as recieving.

They then tried to tell me that I had not paid my package fees for the past 9 months even though they have my credit card on file. It's also funny it took them 9 months to mention that I was in arrears. I look at it this way, either they are trying to bilk me out of the fees, about $150, or they have very shoddy book keeping. Until I can get copies of those bills from my card company I am unable to prove them wrong.

Here is how I see it. If they tried to double bill me then I very much do not want to do business with them. If they had my card on file and just did not charge me but allowed my service to continue for almost a year then I am not sure I want to do business with someone who does business like that. If they run their books that way I can only imagine how Tech support is being done.

Anyway, I know I have rambled on but I am PO'd with these people and they should be avoided at all costs. The low prices and large amount of extras are just not worth the hassle.

1and1 has good prices, but is very difficult to transfer or push which should't be the case because they advertise on sedo. Email support is bad and phone support is a little better. Inferface is very confusing they could make things a whole lot simpler. Like another reviewer stated its probably best for someone who wants a permanent domain and doesn't plan on selling it anytime soon.
