Domain Traffic - Newbie with questions

Hello,

I would like to start purchasing domains and have been looking at them for a while..but I am nervous to take the first step. Please forgive me for asking so many questions that may be simple.

I had a couple questions concerning traffic. I have been searching deleted domains with popusearch. Here I can get the search engine ranking of them. How important is this to people when they are purchasing domains? Is it better to puchase domains with a higher count? I assume it is but a lot of them I search have 0.

Is there any way of finding out traffic rankings of the site if they have already expired or been deleted already? I know to use alexa or trafficranking if they site is still up..but these sites don't work if the sites have already been taken down.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/9670-domain-traffic-newbie-with-questions.html

I was thinking of buying some domain sites and establishing them myself..building a website on them, getting traffic, etc. Is this a good idea? Then if you do decide to sell the site do you sell just the domain name or do you sell everything on the website?

Thanks so much for any help and sorry again for all the questions.

Kathy

Re: Domain Traffic - Newbie with questions

search engine ranking , google PR are all volatile.

starting from scratch , building traffic slowly and getting into search results may take some time and a lot hardwork but the results are very good.

In any site "CONTENT IS KING",if you have enough content and keep adding the same , traffic will start to flow , link popularity will increase , page rank will increase and ofcourse your site's positioning in the search engines will improve.

To most trafffic is essential but to me I am not frightened to start from the beginning. If I see a project that I like and can do I go for it.

I agree!

As a domain reseller, you should never be afraid to take risks!

Whether you're starting from scratch like Elefekt says, or you're taking a ride on some expired traffic.... there's potential in any domain name.

One of the best pieces of advice that I can give you.... since you seem to be nervous is...

Never become emotionally involved! The fact is, and it's the same with everything else in life, sometimes it just doesn't work out the way you planned. Don't get discouraged. You have to look at domains as a long-term investment. Never expect to register a domain and get rich tomorrow... a lot of planning, and marketing are involved, especially if you intend to make a decent profit.

Another great resource, if you haven't already tried it is http://www.linkpops.com/

I've gotten a few good ones with traffic...

I wish you the best of luck! Jump in with both feet.... you've got a lot of support here to walk you through!

Developing your Domains is a good thing, this only adds value to the name. I've seen some strange names sold for some good $ simply because they where developed.

Normally you would want to sell the entire site after spending the time to developing it.

Traffic/Links/Rank/PR/Dev all play a major role in determining the value of a Domain.

ditto. that is why I some times find it hard to focus
generics/short names hype only.

if the site is great with CONTENT,
MHO is that clickers will come!!

never mind if the name is:

I still like to have the most relevent, short name possible, if I was to buy a site that was badly named, I'd find something better to use and replace it, a name is just a name but I prefer to own a nice one.

Thank you very much everyone for all the help, confidence and some more sites for me to check out.

I actually bought my first domain name late the other night.

I have bought a few before over the years but always have used them for personal use and always knew what I was going to do with them.

The site I bought I plan on developing, hopefully getting traffic and then who knows. Knowing me I will end up liking it and keeping it.

Thanks again and if anyone else has any advice or sites to check out please send them over.

Thanks,
Kathy
