Appraisal Question

I placed this thread in the newbie area because that's what I am...a newbie. A nebie to domain reselling but not a newbie to the internet and web development though. anyway...

The reason I started this thread is to ask the question...

How, on God's green earth, can someone give an appraisal of "such and such developed"??

Does a good or bad development not affect the value of a domain at all?? That seems completely ludicrous. Am I wrong?

I think "developed" more means that it has value with an attached developed site, but you are certainly right.
For instance, codes.cc has been a long standing goal of mine to complete, but never have. The name might be golden, but if I had the zip/area/coupon/cheat code database with scripts for lookup all setup it would be of much greater value than the sum of its parts (The script worth $x and the name worth $x does not mean the two combined are worth $x+$x, if the two parts fit, the whole is worth more than the sum of the parts).
Hope that's what you were asking

Well, say back in 1994 someone asked to appraise a domain named GoDaddy.com. It's a cute name and would probably get a mid to low $xx and a couple folks would say "reg fee or low $xx developed". Well, today it's developed. Is it still low $xx?

hah.
Same would be true with "Google" of course.
Typically, the "developed" comment is with sites like "downloadscriptshere.com" or something that has an obvious developmental use. If not, then I too share your comments.

Some days I wonder if I'm thinking clearly or if I'm just way off my rocker and should just shut the hell up. Wait...I wonder that every day. *shrug*

Developed has many meanings in the DN game, the basic meaning is to build a site around the name, the full meaning would be to have an established site with traffic. The idea that in 1994 someone appraised Godaddy.com for $xX is about right but a name is only worth what you make it worth. The DN Godaddy.com is now at the elite status or meaning of being developed because the name itself is established AKA a household name just like Gatorade, Google, Yahoo and others. IMO appraisals you have to pay for are a waste of money because no one person or company (group) knows what the name is truley worth because it is only worth what the highest bidder/buyer is willing to pay. Just some thoughts

My view is “developed” means that it's not a great name, but catchy/sorta-catchy, and has no immediately recognisable intrinsic value in terms of traffic/revenue.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/85463-appraisal-question.html

There are good single keyword domains that are clearly worth a lot. 2/3 letters have a clear high market value. Most everything else is pure speculation. These others are generally appraised here based on traffic, revenue, and possibly to some degree overture. If they don't have any nice stats there but still sound nice then you'll generally get a “developed” comment.

I wouldn't say “completely ludicrous”, but all appraisals (here or elsewhere) should be taken with a grain of salt. Many should be taken with one of those little ribbed sachets of salt you get in McDonalds. A number should be taken with a full 26 ounces of “when it rains it pours”.
