Advice needed from NP fellows

i am confused about my site

one of my friend told me it would be good to start a forum there
start with phpbb
as community grows update it with other scripts and skins

? is how much i need to get community going there
how much $ estimate and how i know how much would be need $'s to get good active community going

please advice on this

if you use phpBB you just need to pay for the hosting, advertisments and all shit on the side line ~ nothing for the forum. It really depends on how much you arewilling to spend

phpbb.com free BUT gets hacked ALOT
vbulletin.com I don't own it but theres ALOT of happy customers

it cost a bit but hey, would you rather get hacked?

Use vBulletin, it's easier to upgrade, harder to hack and $100 or so shouldn’t break you. Don’t worry if we’re mad at you, we might get mad from time to time but even if we hit you that doesn’t mean we don’t love you baby…We still love you but you make us do it, oh, oooh, never mind. A lot depends on how much effort you are willing to invest in your forum. Good luck.

You can always migrate from PHPBB to VB later on when you get that much traffic to do so. It does take quite a bit of cash and time to get a forum really rolling unless you happen to hit upon a topic that is not yet oversaturated, like some hot new TV show or something. Otherwise, you are just one of the crowd and it's really hard to get people to post without the NP$ deal or something like that...
