![]() ![]() | Transferring a domain name with related email account from Dotster to GoDaddy I would like to transfer a Dotster domain name to GoDaddy. No problems there as I have done it before. However, I have email hosting with that Dotster domain and I don't want to transfer or change the email hosting status. Is this possible? I thought I would post here before harassing the registrars. |

I'm moving away from you, so I'm not using any of your services anymore!". Check dotsters legal fine prints. If their prints say you can't use your email or website hosting with them if you transfer your domain out, that's all there is to it. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The email service can continue with dotster but you will need to change the MX settings in your mail account area to the godaddy settings. Alternatively, if you enter the usa1 and usa6 option in the checkout with godaddy, you will get a free email account with this domain and then close down the dotster service. These are the instructions if you are using a godaddy email service with the domain parked elsewhere so you get the general picture: QUESTION: Can I use your email account if I host my domain with another registrar? ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/77273-transferring-domain-name-related-email-account.html ANSWER: Yes, but you will have to change your Zone records (MX and CName) with your registrar. Follow the steps below. Step 1: Log in to your account at your domain registrar’s Web site. Step 2: Locate the Zone record set up for your domain. NOTE: Not all registrars will allow you to modify these records. If your registrar will not allow you to modify your Zone records contact their customer support for help. Step 3: Replace the existing records with the information below: yourdomain.com – MX preference = 0, mail exchanger = smtp.secureserver.net yourdomain.com – MX preference = 20, mail exchanger = mailstore1.secureserver.net If you would like to use your email in a POP3 client, change your CNAME records to the following: mail - map to pop.secureserver.net email - map to email.secureserver.net hope that helps! |
