![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If you could give one piece of advice to a newbie... What would that be? I am not a newbie as such myself, I have a couple of sites and have been on the internet in various ways almost as long as it has been around but what would you share to a friend who has never been around it before? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Something I have mentioned previously, but certainly on-topic here: ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/640389-if-you-could-give-one-piece.html If you haven't read this response from Mark to a June 11, 2009 blog post (5th comment down), it’s something that is definitely worth taking a look at. Mark's post explains one pathway open to domainers and clearly defines every step along the way. For application of the above advice, Google search the following keywords with or without quotes: lemon sour small business copiers creme de cocoa Those keyword phrases with .com added that you see in the first page results are from my company portfolio. CAVEAT: Mini-sites represent little more than a stop-gap solution in the struggle to monetize the domain space. They may temporarily stop the parked page bleed-out, but don't fool yourself into believing this is a long term, sustainable solution. No doubt that in the future, those mini-sites Mark refers to will need to evolve into fully developed, content rich portals that become the ultimate source of information for the product, service or subject matter represented by the keywords of the domain name. Remember it's all about the site visitor.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | look at a domain and ask yourself does this name make sense before you register it, everyone wants to sell to end users but only a small percentage of domainers actually own domains that an end user would come looking for, I have hand regged and searched drop lists for .com domains that describe a product or service that would appeal to a business and that show a good amount of searches with the google adwords bid tool, make sure the order of the keywords makes sense as well as reversing keywords doesn't make as much sense as the way someone would actually search for it, domains that have high searches also do the best in parking until you find that buyer as most have a trickle of type in traffic, the better your domains appeal to a business the better chance of end user money and less work in selling them as domains that make sense are an easier sell, list your domains at sedo, afternics distribution network and godaddys premium listings and that gives you a good reach where end users would shop as many companies including some of the biggest shop at sedo in order to stay anonymous, the majority of what I own were all $7 dropped domains and I have sold quite a few in the low to high xxxx range which isn't huge money but for a $7 investment I consider it a great return, having a small portfolio of quality domains is better than having a large of portfolio of good/junk domains mixed as I would rather be holding 100% quality and your renewal fees are lower as well, good luck.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Try a mixture of parked and developed sites to see what works best for you. If you use flash sites make sure your flash pages have links to all your html pages. Search engine bots do not like flash sites from what I have been reading. A mixture of flash and html is better so the search bots can index the sites. A new domain can rank well with good seo. You do not have to buy an aged domain. I have some sites that are new and the PR is good on them. |
