Best ways to actually secure a .com address?

i've been lurking on the forums for the past couple of months and have been doing a fair bit of reading about where to start, sites to look at etc etc.

I noticed pool.com, snapnames.com and a few others detailed in the newbies guide. Do you guys actually uses these sites to actually secure your names or just use them for the info they provide?

I'm keen to pick up a decent .com address however snapnames for instance were unable to get any of the domains I added on back order. I just kept getting the email that they were unable to secure the domain.

Are sites like the ones mentioned above be used for the daily lists they provide? Surely if a domain is dropping you could keep an eye on your favourite reg site and simply register it yourself?
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/623494-best-ways-actually-secure-com-address.html

Do you actually stand much chance of securing a decent domain name this way or am I best just to use the info on their site as a reference of what's coming available?

if its a real good one , snap, pool or namejet will usually get it ( not %100 of the times , but almost ) so yeah , back ordering in all the 3 is a good idea if u want to snatch expire domains
