I understand you, but usually sellers provide buyers with appraisals. It's a

common practice. Independent appraisers are involved in any serious
purchase. It's a good practice to do business because nobody is going to
lose money.

lol

id say you reply back with your deisired price and see what they say.

dx3k, if they are asking you to purchase an appraisal, it is usually a scam. Especially when they give you a list of appraisers that they will accept.

bizbj, I think referring them to Sedo would be ok. If they are a serious buyer they shouldn't care who they pay for the domain. My bet is that you will get a reply asking you to get an appraisal.

Referring them to Sedo would be okay, but wouldn't be the best solution if you plan to sell a name for under $100. Also, the extra work to buy the name might discourage some buyers...

I usually give them the best price I can live with. If they want an appraisal, I offer to let them get it appraised on their own and send it to me. I usually never hear from them again. This is one of the older scams, don't fall for it whatever you do.

If you don't know what to ask, then either:

- ask him to make a reasonable offer, or
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=54710
- give him a price that's double the name's NP appraisal, or
- give him an outrageous price

Any of the above will do, as long as you reply!

Hi!

If I were to be asked, I would enumerate first the benefits of having the domain name. I would also tell them if there were others who have expressed interest on the domain. Then, I would tell them my asking price, the price that I am happy with. And if they want an appraiser, they are welcome to get one.

They are simply our opinions, don't be offended if they come up a lot as "regfee" ;-)

Besides, they are worth what someone is willing to pay for them. I never would have paid more than $50 for google.com back in the day, but it obviously worked out for those guys.

Or a better example, "IceRocket", It was an inside joke b/n friends for years, should have bought the domain name, b/c it's now a big 'ol deal.

The key: Buy what you like, when somebody else wants it, you've found value!
The appraisals are just to get an idea...

"Reg fee" applies only to reseller-level sales. For sales to end-users, there's no such thing as reg fee. Anyone starting a real business (not a "maybe I'd like to do hosting during summer if I'm not doing anything else" kind of business) already invests a few thousand $ getting setup, and probably won't mind spending a few hundred dollars for a name he really wants. So if the name you have is brandable, and you have a real end-user inquiry, then just throw out $500 as an asking price, and see what happens. If he balks, you can always go to a lower number.

As someone mentioned previously, give them an outrageous price and ask them to if they have another price, let you know.
