how do you transfer ownership of a domain?

Sorry this has probobly been asked before, but i need a quick answer to a quick question.
If someone wants to buy one of your domains from you, what's the process of transfering ownership?
Thanks in advance.

It depends...

It depends on where the domain is located. A lot of places like ENom and GoDaddy have a free "push" service that allows you in a few clicks to move the domain to another Enom or GD account. If they don't have a free "push" service like 1and1, then you are forced to spedn money to transfer the domain to another account or registrar. To be more specific, I would need to know where the domain was located.

Thanks for your help. I registered the domain at godaddy, as for the person buying the domain name, i don't even think they've got any domain name accounts as they're quite old and only just getting into computers now.

So really, i have to tell this person he needs to set up an account to receive this domain? Can you set up an account at a place like godaddy without actually buying any domains?

Most registars will allow you to set up an account for free & you don't have to have any domains in your account.

Sure, you can set up an account my clicking on the My Account link on GoDaddy's homepage. Then click on the link below the login button where it says If you've never been here before and would like to set up an account, Click Here.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=54424

Once they set up an account then you'll need to obtain the following information from them for the transfer:

- First and Last Name
- Street Address
- City
- State
- Zip Code
- Phone Number
- Email Address

Then when you're ready to transfer the domain, put a check next to the box by the domain you want to transfer. Then click on the Transfer Ownership link and you'll be required to enter in the above information. The new owner's will then receive an email with a security code and a password they must enter into their own account to finish the transfer process.

Hope this helps you out and best of luck to you!

so does enom and godaddy allow you to set up a free account, not a reseller or retail account, so you can park your domain anytime?

Thumbs up Godaddy Super rates

You can create a new acccount without purchasing at Godaddy and request a transfer.

Tip, also there is an offer for super wholesale rates for Godaddy services right now if anyone is interested.

You can open an account indentically the same way..

Full Details here..
http://cyberceo.com/superday

Don't forget domains prior 30 days expiration can be restricted to transfer.

I wish hostway had a free "push" service. The only way you can do it there is to buy a reseller server, or some junk. Because every account has a domain.
