parked pages

Anyway to tell where someone has come from when they visit your parked page? I am currently parked at sedo and have (among others) two domains there.

garbagedisposals.info this one is getting 1-2 clicks/day
google search "garbage disposal" 166,000 pages
deskjets.info this one gets no visits
google search "deskjet" 3.7 million pages

I'm wondering why one name is getting action, and the other none.
I would like to see where the visits are coming from, so I could make sure that all my names are submitted to the search engines. Any way to do this or any opinions?
Thanks

According to WordTracker
"garbage disposals" is searched 202 times a day
"deskjets" is searched 0 times per day ("hp deskjet" only 97 times/day)

The fact that google returns more results for deskjet means that there are that many more sites that contain the keyword deskjet competing for top position in the results.

as an undeveloped site your parked garbagedisposals.info is probably getting hit by the 2 or 3 searches done each day for "garbagedisposal" without the space between the words.

That makes sense. However, the overture numbers are as follows:

Searches done in September 2004
Count Search Term
4784 hp deskjet
2489 hp deskjet 3820
2422 deskjet printer
2208 deskjet
1899 hp deskjet printer
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=54294
1483 hp deskjet 5550
1335 hp deskjet 5150
1304 hp deskjet driver
1252 hp deskjet 3650

Searches done in September 2004
Count Search Term
9450 garbage disposal
818 garbage disposal repair
548 how to install a garbage disposal
495 fix garbage disposal
417 garbage disposal installation
379 insinkerator garbage disposal
363 badger garbage disposal
336 clogged garbage disposal

so why are the wordtracker numbers so different? Anyhow, I can see what you're saying about the competition being heavier for deskjets.
Thanks for a good response

Overture doesn't differentiate between singular and plural. So the 2200 that they report for "deskjets" includes searches for "deskjet"

WordTracker and Overture are also calculating numbers from different search engines. Overture pulls data from more search engines as well.

What's a good number on the parked sites?

I started out having some of my domains parked at Sedo, and then moved over to Domainhop, mostly as a result of what I learned on this site.
Question: what's a good minimum number of hits per day when you look at the stats? I have mostly tech and health/pharmacy related domains and I get 0-20 hits per on average.
Thanks

I would think that 20 hits a day on a parked domain name is pretty good.

20 hits would be average for a site that isn't e-r-o-t-i-c.us in which case if you get one hit per day your the luckiest man on earth. I cant remember who, but someone here (i belive they posted on the domainhop.com rocks! thread lol) had a typo domain and was getting an unbelivable amount of hits per-day (XX,XXX??) still never told us what his domain was... lol

I have 7 or 8 domains on domainhop.com and between all of them, I'm only getting about 80 hits a month. I was wondering what is okay to do in order to increase this? Is there certain marketing tricks or are you just at the mercy of the tide.

Also, in buying domain names, what is the most important indicator to keep an eye on? Is it Overture, Google, Link Popularity? typos? Actually my typo for netscape is doing the bulk of the business. Not great, but better than nothing.

I'm just wondering if I could be doing something better than I am.

Parking is the best thing you can do with a typo domain. If you had a domain that meens something parking should just be a temporary thing until you sell it off, or put a site on the name. But ofcourse im not an expert there may be something I'm not familiar with that you can do, and if there is I'd love to hear it, it could help me out aswell.

One thing you should note is that even though the query yield large number, it doesn't mean your domain is indexed in the search engine yet, especially since people don't just type in random extension.

.info domains natuarally get fewer type-ins than .com. Before a person tried it, they probably also tried .com and .net, and maybe even .org. I have many .info domains, and don't get a lot of hits. Athough I do take advanatage fo the ones I get by making sure the domain is available there. Using .infos to make type-in income is a long shot that may just insure your annual fees are paid until you sell, but not likely to create high income. The best use for .info domains is for sale to end users. To get real traffic, it's best to at least partially develop the name with some content, and then submit to the search engines.
