Estibot Questions

Kinda puzzled here. I was doing a domain search on ideas I had. One of the domains I was thinking about showed it was available. So I went to estibot to do a search to see how the keywords looked there. Well when the results came up it showed that this domain was registered and that it had a $5100 offer pending. I clicked on the offer link and it took me to a sedo page where it was showing that this domain was for sale and there was an offer. Well I copied and pasted the name in 5 other domain resellers and they all show that it's available. I really like the domain but am unsure what to do now.

Also, can someone explain how estibot gets a value price for the domains that you search there. I mean I use estibot more for keyword info and stats than anything but I find the prise it gives interesting. The other day I looked up a few domains there just to see what I would find. Many of these I picked from the sedo auction of sold domains. Most showed reg fee and many had sold for over $1000. I know estibot is good for stats and all but whats the deal with the pricing. Why even show it if it's doesn't really mean anything.

If it was listed in Sedo in the past and not removed by the prior owner, Estibot still shows it as for sale in Sedo, even though it might be available now.

I have had similar experience, where Estibot and whois.sc showed it as for sale, but when I checked with other sites they were available.

So when in doubt, then check it at 2-3 sites, if they show available reg. it.

Here is two sites I use myself:
who.is and 77gb.net

Good luck and best regards,

Estibot is a great tool, but for the data it provides. I would take any valuation with a grain or salt. Most are way too high, or way too low.

This was actually discussed in another thread here on NP but I can't find it right now.

Testingyou is correct; the SEDO interface lists it as "for sale" if the previous owner never deleted in from their SEDO listings - even if the name has already dropped and is available for registration.

Estibot checks the SEDO listing first for a number of reasons. I've talked to SEDO about this, they've acknowledged the problem but I've found they're pretty slow to actually do anything about things. Maybe that's because they've gotten fairly big and you know how things get with big corporations. Every new thing takes forever to be implemented.

I'm going to fix this myself. I'll have the script check the registry first, so there won't be any possibility for confusion.

Regarding the pricing: The dollar amounts you see in the listing on top of the results (with the links to the SEDO pages) have nothing to do with Estibot; they are the asking prices provided by the domain owners on SEDO.

Thanks for reporting this so I can start working on it.

I had recently such a case with Sedo: I saw that a domain that I had recently bought was listed there. I wrote to Sedo, and I must say that I was impressed to see that the domain was removed within less than 24 hours.

Estibot's a GR8 tool and as we can see here run and made by a dedicated domainer - I recommend the pro domainer membership upgrade - very worth it!

I love estibot! That is great that you are on this, at the same time it is also intersting to see that a domain was recently for sale. May I suggest, while you are making this new change, that you could add a block using the old data to show that the name was listed for sale at a certain price.

You could kill two birds with one stone as you are making the update, show the name as available and also show what is was listed for sale before. Estibot provides a wealth of information, that is why I am on your site daily. The more information I have about a domain name, the better!

In anycase, keep up the great work! After using estibot for so many months, I can't imagine trying to get along without it!
