Use Estibot for what it is... a tool.

Even though Estibot is, imo, the best free automatic appraisal you can find, its still only a tool.

Domain prices are subjective and what might seem reg. fee for some may be $x,xxx for others.

I use Estibot to get stats and informations regarding the domain.

I actually dont look at the appraisal it gives.

It helps to determine some value - part of it - based on some specific parameters. Nothing else, but it helps.

it is a great tool, but like sibername and estibot says best to use all available resources and at your discretion

as an example consider that

bankoholic.com sold for $15 million, but estibot appraises it at $20K

Cancer Survivorship Breast Cancer
Use estibot for your metrics, i.e. wordtracker, PPC bid, ect.

@800ml: That price was paid for the entire site and the person's services. Not for the domain. Basically that domain would be minimal compared to the amount paid for the site if it was a parked page.

Estibot is great tool but it's just tool and often overpriced domains, especially some of those with traffic.
Dnscoop is another great free appraisal, but they overprice domains with tons of backlinks so statscounter.com has estimated value 450,000,000$
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/521961-how-good-is-estibot.html

Best way is to use both and make average between those prices (if differs alot, do not make linear average but pick value closer to lower value)

and still divide final price with 3 or 5 to get real value

Recent domain sales of similar names with give you a better jest of finding the value of a name rather than comparing computerized estimates.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=521961

Many many factors play a roll in a domains value, but at the end of the day the domain is really only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Ross, these are exactly words I often write/say "willing to pay". but since this thread compares computerized appraisals, I only gave my view how to get more accurate info from those appraisals

it's one of the tools out there, you should try the pro version, gives you more approximation tools but it's not the concluding factor but the owner of the domain makes final decisions on the price.

I use Estibot all the time, but not to figure out the exact value of a domain. I can do that work on my own. The reason I use Estibot is, like Ross said, to examine the metrics of a name.

I can get a quick snapshot of a domain by just running it through Estibot; which I'll later use when coming up with a value.

I pay for pro domainer estibot membership - the dude thet runs the site is awesome and dedicated and sends good free stuff in member newsletter - but yes, just a tool - I would pay mucho for some estibot rated at reg fee and nada for some valued at 10k - but for the most part, with my end user sales for the past 5 yrs Ive check to see with estibot and they were pretty close. its pretty good for short domains especially.

Agree. I've honestly found that Estibot gives better appraisals on average than many domainers.

Estibot seems to perform best with 3-4 letter and generic .coms. It's a great tool, but use it as a tool. The best advice I have is to specialize in a small domaining market segment and become an expert in it.

Some other tools which are very helpful in getting a bearing on prices include:

Namebio
DNSaleprice
DNJournal
Wordtracker

Estibot is very accurate with short domains, as Reece said.

It is normally quite low on keyword domains like TwoWord.net/org

It is normally high on domains with high Google results, but not relevant, like parts of a phrase.

I turned down an offer for Mid $XX,XXX for a TwoWord.net financial term that estibot values at $2500, so it works both ways.

I fully understand that but we are in the newbie section and 99.99 percent of them have the "i saw gjhgjg.com on estibot and it says its worth $3000 if i buy it i can sell it for $2000 and pocket the money" promblem They dont have "i own ****.com and its really worth $50,000 but estibot says its only worth $1000" promlem lol

Yeah, I tend to agree there. After awhile you understand how to use the metrics of Estibot, and ignore the final value in most cases.

I use it all the time for metrics but dont really pay attention to the $ valuation.
It's convenient and part of many a domainers arsenal of tools.
