you can try to search for the domain in google, yahoo, alexa, etc. Check it's page rank. Check wordtracker for its keywords...

You can use www.estibot.com
Type in the domain and it will show you a genertal traffic figure.

www.tdnam.com has lots of traffic domains, but you have to set up an account there.

warning about tdnam - many of the traffic figures are total crap. I once spent $700 on a name with over 2,500 uniques per month. When I got it (it takes 2 weeks), it got less than 20 uniques that month. Some figures are accurate, but do research as well as looking at their stats.

I recently purchased a typo generic domain - It was a risky buy as there were no stat history but it seems to be performing nicely. Its a tough gig - Ive been domaining for a few years and traffic domain names are tough to come by without significant investments or simply lucky finds.

That's usually if you are buying expired traffic. If you stick to the low volume generics you don't get burnt nearly as often.

Nice to see Depositfiles at TOP. Company that promotes Zango, company that offers peope earnings from downloads, so most of the traffic is bringed by webmasters that wanna earn som buck. So if there's no reward program, traffic will drop significantly within months

see it's site: and link: on google.com
see it's pr, listings on other major search engines.

if it's too easy, there will not be domain kiters or tasters, btw
