Selling Website Conent

I often see in sales content not included or vice versa. I understand how website hosting works, but I don't quite understand how someone can take the content with them when the domain is sold.

When a person sells their domain only is there a way for them to keep their content and shift it to another site?

Basically, I wanted to know how domain name sales with content work. Thanks to any who replies.

Thumbs up solution

This is something that needs to be addressed before the sale. I've sold sites that were fully developed with content, but the guy just wanted my domain name so he could do his own thing with it.

I dropped the price a bit, took down all the content, and gave him his product...a blank website.

In general though, someone will want to buy your website because of the content and because of the traffic.

That doesn't mean to say that you can't hold a copy of the content and go start ANOTHER website, under ANOTHER name...with the same content...THAT part is up to the buyer to cover in the contract...

hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I get the contractual issue and that you have to work it out with the buyer. But how does it logistically work, like how do you transfer or not transfer the content of a website when you sell a domain?
