Just made th plunge

After reading through this site for about a month I finally just purchased a couple of domains.

What is the recommendation as to buying the .net with the .com?

I would think that if you have both the value would be better. But I am a newbie.

People will jump on this posting and tell you how great .com is and that everything else is garbage. Don't listen to them.

Look at CraigsList.org (his .org was so much more popular than the .com on his name (he owns both))

And ".org" doesn't mean you HAVE to be an "organization" or non-profit...it's just another extention for the domain sellers to profit off of.

del.i.cio.us is another. The most popular .us domain on the planet....go figure!

The bottom line is this, if you happen to find a domain that you are IN LOVE WITH...I mean REALLY..IN LOVE WITH...then buy the .net and the .com....domains are so cheap...it won't kill you to own a few versions of your .com idea!

A .com is always preferred to a .net. If you want to protect your brand, go ahead and get the .net since a competitor will usually buy the .net if the .com is taken.

Take a look at DNJournal.com and see the sales. Compare .com vs. .net - numbers don't lie. .Com is king

If you are comparing Apples to Apples .COM is better. However .NET and .ORG still have good value especially for keyword domains.

Is StockMarket.com worth a lot of money? YES
Is StockMarket.net worth a lot of money? YES

Personally I would prefer a high quality keyword .NET over a mediocre .COM, especially for development.

starting out - don't buy the .net and .com, you'll probably regret buying the .com and the .net is just another thing to get rid of

buy a couple .coms, see if you can sell them here, and if you can, repeat

good luck and welcome!

Hi bzzzimm! Congrats on your first post Glad to see another newbie who've also taken the plunge just this month. I love reading all the posts here as well, very informative!

I'd say go with your gut feel on every domain name you register. If .com sounds right, then GO for it! If .net feels better, then that's it ;-)

pretty much your easiest bet it wordpress - seo, plugins, themes - it's all taken care of for you. you can tinker with html and css if you want to improve things.

i've got a mini introduction and a collection of starter links at namehugger.com, and am collecting domainer-friendly themes at wordpresstheme.me

good luck!
