Question Type In Traffic Very Confused ???

Hi,

Having done some research into creating income from domain names I am still a little confused by Type-In traffic ?? and not sure on how this works.

As I understand it TypeIn traffic is when the user types your domain name in directly into the Browser Address Bar.

Having tried this on several well known domains and my own domains. Each time I do this it results in being directed to the Search Engine result for that "Domain Name" and not the actual Domain itself. Example if i type in "yahoo" in the address bar it gets directed to the search engine result page for the KeyWord "yahoo" and not www.yahoo.com (although of course this is one of teh first entries in the search page)

Am I missing something completely obvious here ??? or is this becaus eof some browser setup that I have ???
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/500000-type-in-traffic-very-confused.html

Really confusing me no end at the moment??

Also how are extentions delat with by TypeIn traffic ?? I mean does the address bar entry always default to ".com" or do other TLD's stand a chance with TypeIn traffic.

Any obeservations or clarifications would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

many people will simply type in whatever they are looking for +.com

e.g. lots of people want shoes. a percentage of them will type in shoes.com

that's correct, so if i like books, i type in books.com
but with today's browser like firefox all you have to do is type in books and you go straight for first result on google

Thanks weblord and NC so if i understand you guys correctly..then when you type in "shoes" into your address bar you get 1st page of google results for shoes and do NOT go directly to www.shoes.com ?? am i right in understanding you ???

Also how would the other TLD extentions for "shoes" fair ..i mean would this just depend on how well SEO work is done for say "shoes.info"...
