Let me begin by saying that I'm in no way a "domainer". I'm clueless. But I do like the thrill of the chase and with many of the new tools available, searching has become more interesting and has left me with several questions I don't have answers to. Any help would be appreciated:

Questions:

1. I have a not-so-premium CYCV domain that gets some traffic (< 1000/mo) and has a PR of 2. What would be the ballpark estimate if the domain had a valid pr of 5 and 20000 uniques a month? I ask because the answer would determine whether or not I sell it or actually put some time into it.

2. I have found a domain that estibot values at $900. The keywords (two) without quotes return 306 million results in google and 4 million with quotes. And, according to google, the keyword phrase is searched 30000 times a month. Both are very competitive keywords. Am I crazy not to buy? I know it's only 9 bucks but I just don't feel like buying another dud

3. What metrics are used to determine value?

• Google results w/o quotes
• Google results with quotes
• Search volume (adwords keyword tool)
• Trends, length, readability
• Feel free to add to the list

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I may not be the best person to answer, but I can try...

1. More traffic and PR is better, but if the domain/site is not making any money it doesn't matter as much. Some people will buy a domain based only on traffic, but there is risk involved for the buyer to be able to turn that traffic into cash. You could list the domain at auction or under "Make offer" and see what results you get.

2. What's the domain name? Just kidding! Well, Estibot means little to nothing when it comes to actual value, in my opinion. And the number of times the keywords show up when you search in Google also means very little to me. Even if you have something that shows up in Google, does that matter if no one is searching for it? You say the keyword phrase is "searched 30000 times a month", but where did you check that? If you used the keyword estimator, did you put the phrase in brackes "[ ]"? The brackets shows you exact matches and the number will be lower than the words without them, and more realistic as to what you can expect. The other factor for value is bid range for the keyword phrase, for buyers that park and don't develop.

Except for the first two, I would agree with the other factors that you have for determining value. I would add that whatever income the domain is generating can also have an effect on the value.

Thanks for the response Chris.

The "searched 30000 times a month" came from the Google Adwords keyword tool. Instead of just showing that a keyword phrase has low, med, or high search volume...they now assign a numeric value of searches per month. That said, today everything shows as "insufficient data"

Maybe I'll just park my unused domains and see what happens.
