3 Main Ways To Make Money As A Domainer?

Note: I posted this on another forum over two years ago when I first entered the domaining world. I had to divert my attention from domaining for a good while and just returned, along with my teenaged son who also wants to learn about domaining. We'd appreciate any feedback from those more experienced than us, even if it is simply pointing out some specific threads and posts on this forum. Thank you!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am under the impression that there are 3 main ways to make money with domain names. I have listed them below with what I believe are the major steps. I'd be grateful if those with experience could let me know if I have this right.

Buying and Selling Domain Names

1. Register a domain name

2. Park the domain name

3. Advertise the domain name via various methods

4. Settle on price with a buyer and complete the sale

5. Transfer domain name to new owner

Pay Per Click Parking

1. Register a domain name

2. Domain name is parked with an aggregator who creates a webpage and adds links and ads that lead to other sites selling products.

3. A web surfer visits the webpage and clicks into a link or ad and goes to another site selling a product.

4. The owners of the site selling a product pay Google a fee for the visitor. Google pays the aggregator a portion of this fee and the aggregator pays the owner of the domain name a portion of the fee it received from Google.

Affiliate Marketing

????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/499223-3-main-ways-make-money-domainer.html
1. Register a domain name

2. Select an affiliate program

3. Place the affiliate programs ads on a webpage you have developed.

4. A web surfer visits your webpage and clicks into the affilaite's ad and is directed to a website that sells a product and buys the product.

5. The affiliate program pays the owner of the webpage a fee for the sale.

I am quite sure that I am missing something here, so please let me know where I have erred.

Thanks for the help!

You and your son might have more fun developing one domain name into a website like a blog, hobby intrest, what ever. Very hard to just reg a name, park it somewhere and make money. extremely easy to buy a name and it gets no traffic. and if it gets traffic, make 0.09 a day, a week, or a month. There are people that do this and work real hard just to get thier regerstation fees back with parking. Best to just have fun and teach your son about buliding websites

Excellent points, totally agree... I think its a safer bet with websites. I mean teach him now, he'll have the knowledge and get better at building sites with time. There is always demand for site builders - and if there isn't he can just sit there building sites for himself for revenue/ads etc. Unless you're at the top of the domain game, I think its a safer route with site building...

If you have an excellent website name that get's a lot of traffic, you can lease the name out to those interested for a monthly fee. Wish I owned a high-traffic site.
