Newbie needs help!

I am fairly new at Domaining. I have read a lot of the posts on this site, but not all. I apologize if I am asking questions that have already been asked. I would really appreciate your input, guidance or pointing me to the appropriate thread on the questions listed below.

Thanks in advance for your patience and input!

• Keyword search tools: Most popular, effective and accurate tools being used today?

• Overture Keyword Selector Tool: Has this tool been retired? Are the alternatives I am asking for in the previous question adequate or even better replacements for Overture?

• Typo search tools: Most popular, effective and accurate tools being used today? Are free tools any better than commercial tools.?

• Keyword Bids Tools: What tools exist that allow me to find out what the going rates are for specific keywords?

• Registrar comparisons: I realize there are many domain name companies. Does anyone know of a matrix or other format that lists the major registrars and compares their prices, services offered, pros-cons, etc?

• Domain name traffic: Are there any commonly accepted benchmarks used when researching/evaluating phrases, terms, words, tec., that I may purchase as domain names? I am very confused about this issue. I did read on one website that to be valuable as a domain name that will draw traffic, a word or phrase had to appear on at least 500,000 pages minimum when I did a Google or other search.

My tip: Don't rely on just one single source for information. Use a handful of resources and compare the data. The more insight you get the better.
