| NamePros Member | trademarks and wordmarks One of the key criteria for registering a domain name is to check the US Trademarks I searched 'Father's Gift' and it came up with: SALVE TO A HURTING WORLD; THE BRIGHT & MORNING STAR; HE'S THE LILLY OF THE VALLEY; SEE THE LIGHT; HE OPENS DOORS & CLOSED WINDOWS; HE'S 'JOY' IN TIMES OF SORROW; A 'MOTHER' FOR THE MOTHERLESS; A 'FATHER' FOR THE FATHERLESS; 'FRIEND' FOR THE FRIENDLESS; A 'LAWYER' IN A COURTROOM; HE WAS A CARPENTER; HE CALMED THE WATERS; HE FEARED NO MAN; HE'LL MAKE YOU 'FISHER'S' OF MEN; ONLY BELIEVE; BABY BOY; ROSE OF SHARON; MARY'S BABY; OH, GIVE THANKS; SEE THE MANGER; WISE MEN SEEK HIM; HE WALKED AMONG MEN; HE LOVED HIS MOTHER; HE LOVED HIS EARTHLY FATHER; HE WAS HIS HEAVENLY FATHER'S SON, TOO!; HE 'CLEARED' THE TEMPLE; HE SENT HIS SON INTO A DYING WORLD; HE SENDS ANGELS INTO DARK ROOMS; HE WAS DANIEL'S PROTECTOR; HE WAS WITH THE HEBREW BOYS; IMAGINE THE 'BURNING BUSH' Does it mean that all those are forbidden? (Are these really trademarks? - seems so extreme) Eg: imaginetheburningbush.com cannot be registered? Thank you. |

| Senior Member | I would read what Wikipedia says about Trademarks and then let us know if you have any questions. :-)

| NamePros Member | thanks for the comments what i did was to go to http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?...ate=rda639.1.1 and type in the search criteria the above came out under Word Mark ... in wikipaedia, word mark is given as: quote: A wordmark, subset of the term logotype, is a standardized graphic representation of the name of a company, institution, or product name used for purposes of identification and branding. A wordmark is usually a distinct text-only typographic treatment as can be found in the graphic identities of the Government of Canada, FedEx, Google, and Wikipedia. The organization name is incorporated as a simple graphic treatment to create a clear, visually memorable identity. The representation of the word becomes a visual symbol of the organization or product. In the United States and European Union a wordmark may be registered, making it protected intellectual property. In the United States the term word mark may not only refer to the graphical representation, but the text itself may be a type of trademark.[1] unquote Cheers |
