What is needed to register .asia?
I was trying to buy a .asia domain through dynadot but it seems like it has some restrictions, why are they there and how can I buy one?
Thanks!
Anybody?

I would recommend giving dynadot or godaddy a call. I myself do not know, although I believe that I heard somewhere, that you must have an asian address? Dont quote me, but Im pretty sure. Let us know what you find out.

yes you need an asian snail mail address for the domain whois information.

Which .asia, do you see with a US whois? Not doubting you, rather curious to see if its true. It may be a company that has expansion over seas, or someone that used an asian address to register and changed afterwards? Im really not sure, but show me the link so I can check it out.

Just go to Dynadot and check the whois from any .asia, the majority (english words) are taken by americans it seems.

Apparently real deep pockets. God, I signed up for Fant.Asia, and never got to bid because the first day it was already at $1,500; now it is at $11,000+. It is just too much. I used GoDaddy by the way, which worked for another domain with not that much of demand I guess.

Kind of truth in reality. I think (and correct me if I am wrong) that the rules say that one of the contacts has to be an Asian person. It can be the technical contact, so the owner can still be a non-asian person or company. The one detail is that besides an address you have to provide the number of a document that identifies that person as a citizen of an Asian Country; can be the passport #.

Right. None the less, you need some sort of asian identity, to be eligible to register one of those names. I guess I was wrong, in saying that was the truth, because now as I read it again, the person had said, that YOU physically need one. But in reality, someone has to have one so you can be on it. Almost like co signing for a loan or some other entity.

You can do it through EuroDNS, they'll cover you on not having an Asian address. Though it will cost you $28 per registration...

Another day, another dollar saved, and a lesson learned. Who knows, it couldve been worse, it could have been an error, you couldve paid for the name, thinking you got it, and all of a sudden BANG they snatch it back away from you
