I've just received a $10,000+ offer for a domain that's probably worth just over $100. He wants me to get an appraisal for the domain name so it's most definitely a scam.
I wasn't sure about it at first (that was before he made his offer), I googled his name et cetera but nothing showed up. So I'm now wondering if there's a list of common domainname scams for newbies to read.
Perhaps we could create a thread where everybody could post the scam emails they receive so the thread shows up when Googling for names, etc.

this is sooo simple. person who have 10k to spend on domain, for sure have another $5-$30 buck to get it appraised before purchase. If he wants you to appraise it at "appraisal he trust" its usually a scam.

type into google " domain appraisal scam "
This one has been around for a while - I get a new offer every time I list a domain for sale publicly - especially ebay. Most scams appeal to peoples greed. If your domain is worth 100 why would a real (even very uneducated buyer) offer such a huge amount - glad you weren't silly enough to fall for it - I'm sure plenty of new domainers with $$$ in their eyes have.
same modus operandi, they send you email expressing interest in your domains (usually they scout prospect victim on sedo) then agrees to whatever price you reply to them then afterwards proposes their appraisal services which is the real intention on you not to buy your domains.
i guess go to http://www.scam.com/ it's a forum and search the name first if it has an entry result then read on.
Some people like to call there bluff and play along with the scammer. I just ingore them. I think the scammers are getting wiser and change the names more fequenly
