Drop catching script. is it a thing of the past?

I recently used a program that allowed me to check the exact date of when domains are dropping. As a newcomer to the domain industry, i was really surprised to see so many good domains that could easily worth hunderds to thousand waiting to be dropped.

Not knowing the exact truth, i took alot of time noting down domains, thinking that i might get rich this time .

So i waited and waited until EST 2pm, which is 2am in my country as that's when domains begin to drop(from what i heard). I started using bulk checking tools to check the availability of those selected domains.

2.05am passed.. 2.15am passed...so on.... so on and i gave up at 3am. None are available!? The whole thing just doesn't make sense, i thought.

I then did a google search on why and ahhhhhh... big players like snap and such are using scripts to snap them up right after they become available. ( sorry for sounding much like a noob)

However, while knowing what's really happening now, i also happened to chance upon a few websites selling dropscripts for domainers like me. Cool, i thought. But didn't wanna take chances least it's a scam, i did a google check on it again. Dropscripted actually started since 2002.... and it wasn't really widely mentioned since 2005. At least that's what google show me. Not many are talking about too.

So what's really happening? Are the scripts just not effective now? Or are people not willing to show that they are using it?

But still, the dropscript offer by some websites looks really appealing . Could someone advice me if i should buy it?

thanks!

The most effective dropscript is a direct connection to the registry, and at milliseconds interval. There is zero chance for any windows computer using a dropscript to outbeat a single registrar, with a single connection to the registry.

but what about targeting domains that dont worth much. Maybe a 15-20 bucks domain so that people can do a quick flip? Surely the registrars wouldn't even bother about such domains?

What you are better off doing is trying to backorder a domain with a registrar. Another option that is out there is try viewing some popular droplist sites. There are sites out there that actually show you a list of domains that have recently dropped and are available for grabs. You can often find a good name on these lists and snatch them up. I found WildPants.com on a droplist and hand registered it. I then later sold it for about $45.

I second that.

If the domain is really worth between hundreds and thousands, backordering is the way to go to nearly ensure you get the domain. The extra 11$ that backordering costs is worth it - assuming your sure its worth mid $xx+
