Domain renewal question

I guess I feel stupid for having worked with domains for several years and not knowing this, I just have not paid attention when renewing.
If I renew a domain for a year, does the renewal add a year from todays date or from the expiration date?
I assume this is consistent among all registrars?

I dont know if its different from registrar to registrar and extension to extension, but usually its from the expiration date.

Best regards,

They don't make you wait until the last day to renew so you get the full value. The renewal is added to the time from the expiration date. In the same way if you transfer to a new registrar you have to pay for one year, but you don't lose any registration time you have already paid for.

Generally, the renewal year will be extended from the expiration date. U did not mention what is the domain extension, so it be better to check with your registrar as some of the country code domain extension might have special terms and conditions.

That's actually a good question, for GoDaddy it's expiration date +1 Year when you renew or transfer to them.
