is there a way to see what kind of traffic a domain has received in the past. I have only owned the name for a month or so but on Sedo it shows over 1200 uniques a month from the previous owner who had it on Sedo.

I wouldn't rely to heavily on what sedo shows as traffic in the past month, what if the previous owner paid to have his domain listed on the front page, it would see a spike in traffic right?....
use tools like alexa to see if the domain has any traffic history...

Alexa is not that accurate, its mainly used in the US, and it counts a refresh (f5) as a visit too. Thats what I have been told.

If there is any reliable, I would also like to know.

The only reliable way is a serverside statistic, imo.
