![]() | Domain redepmtion period/expiration explanation? A friend had a domain expire. All of a sudden, he stopped receving e-mail on it. Once he stopped receiving e-mail, godaddy had already auctioned it off on TDNAM and it had been registered to a new owner in whois. Isn't there supposed to be a period at time in which DNS stops functioning, but you can still pay a redenption fee to reclaim your domain? Or is this not mandated? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hmm I guess I don't know if it's mandated or not, I always assumed it was required by ICANN. Try searching icann.org for more info, but obviously the best way is to pay the reg fees on time (I pay many years in advance for important domains), and he should have got many reminder emails. My inbox is filled every day with reminders for domains i'm intentionally letting drop. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | there's a 60 day reminder from gd, 30 days reminder he might have missed those 2. i think if your friend wants the domain he could jot it down in his/her planner or in his computer not to forget to pay/renew the said domain. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | There *should* have been a 60 day redemption period. Whether or not it's required by ICANN I don't know. Call GoDaddy and ask them why they sold the name, they have a history of selling names they don't own. |
