Parking vs. Rolling your own (adsense)

I know that parking a domain takes little time and effort, but wouldn't creating a simple mini-site (5 pages for example) and running ads through your own adsense account be more profitable--to the point where the time commitment of development outweighs the convenience of parking?

Many already do just that, for most either they don't know how to create a minisite (or have their own hosting) or they have too many domains to make them all minisites. Many will just park until they sell the domain. Why develop when you intend to sell? (granted some domains will not sell without development)

I am trying to develop more of my domains with adsense, but it does take time & effort. I only like to develop those that have some decent original content, so most of mine are still parked.

Developing is the best option for sites without a lot of type-in traffic, but if you have that traffic, a parking company can you higher returns per click than you can get on your own. Even if the difference equals the amount the parking company takes in commissions, it means you get the same dollar amount with little effort. Times that by 100's or 1,000's of domains that some people own and it makes a difference.

But yes, if you're talking about a handful of domains without a lot of current traffic, developing a mini-site with content and affiliate programs is likely the way to go.

Agree with DDC_Cyn. It depends on the source of your traffic and your business model.

if your name is not very good to sell imediatelly, then it is better to develop some pages.

I have few domains that I brought last year and this year only 2 of them. I m planning to start blog and add rss feeds so that I can get updates in my blogs.
Adding adsense to it or maybe some affiliate programs could help it. I m planning to promote it spending an hour a day. So this could be better plan than Parking a website.

Thanks

Thanks for the responses everyone!

One of the takeaways is the time and effort discrepancies with respect to development and parking. Sure you can spend months developing a site: creating original content, getting backlinks, and performing other SEO; but if you do this, you only have time to actively commit to 1, maybe 2 of these sites at the same time and might not show profits for months, whereas parking a site can generate consistent revenue via PPC with much less work.

Although it will take more time and effort, I have elected to develop certain niche sites (which I've found through keyword research and analysis) and perform SEO optimization for targeted keyword search phrases to rise in the SERPs. Essentially, one of my goals is to own fewer sites each generating much more revenue than a parking site would over the same amount of time. I have the mindset that since I've entered the domaining game relatively late and don't have a ton of money to start with, I'm going to have to work that much harder to best realize my goals. Fortunately at my current stage in life I can dedicate 12 hours per day or more working towards them!

You could get a niche directory script, make it running and earn few bucks. But that will take lots of time and hard work.
