| Member of the Year | There is no definitive guide, or a single 'must-follow' route to success. Best advice I can give you is to read through a lot of posts here in the Domain Newbies and Domain Discussion forums (esp. some of the 'sticky 'ones) and not jump into buying until you're a bit more confident that you know what you're doing. |

| NamePros Regular | Hi, Welcome to NamePros! I would recommend not to start registering everything that looks good to you. Set the monthly limit for yourself on number of domains you are registering. Remember the renewal fees at the end of the year. Try to spread out your registrations. Read, read and read! NP, domaining.com, etc. are great information sources. Remember, everyone who just starting domaining make mistakes no matter what, however reading and learning from others will reduce the chances for those mistakes. NamePos is a great place to learn from each other and share our love for domain industry. Good luck!

| NamePros Regular | I see over and over on this forum people saying "don't register a domain for 2 months, just read and research". I wholeheartedly disagree. I learned more by making mistakes and losing money than I could ever hope to learn by reading forums. You don't learn to rebuild a car engine by laying on the couch and reading an auto manual, you take the manual into the garage with you and get it greasy. Sure you'll skin your knuckles a few times, maybe you'll strip a few bolts, but it's the only way to learn. So I say use the domaining forums as your user manual and get greasy. Just realize you'll probably make some bad regs and lose some money, go slow, and learn from your mistakes. |

| Senior Member | top advises for newbie would be this i think: 1.before registering domain name check uspto.gov if that name trademarked. do not register trademarks, because you may end up with huge headaches. 2. Ask yourself this question: why this domain is still available for registration? There are so many professional domain hunters and even companies around using softwares to find good domains that there is very low chance for newbie to find something decent available. 3. We also always recommend to read this forum and dnjournal.com for a while before registering. The main purpose is just to get familiar with industry, to understand what sells and especially WHY. Try to find a recently sold domain name at dnjournal and make a research. If you will be able to answer WHY exactly this domain sold at listed price, than and only than consider that you are starting to understand industry.
