| New Member | Hi everyone. I know the title is not too explanatory so I will try to explain further here. Lets take del.icio.us as an example. You can see that they just added a del subdomain to their real domain name icio, which when coupled with the us extension makes up a great dictionary word. I was looking for a domain name for my own niche and I have found an available domain name which when using only the country extension without any subdomains, makes up a decent name for my niche. I apologize if I gave too many details, but I would like your professional opinions, if domain name mixes like these are considered a hot property and would sell good? Also do you know if owning a country domain name, like .us, .uk etc... requires you to be a legal resident of that country? Thanks and I look forward to your replies. | Senior Member | What you are referring to is known as "domain hack". Some domain hacks go well with the extension and looks cool. Definitely stands out from the crowd. There have been $x,xxx sales reported around here. I suppose the value of the domain hack depends on the "keyword". Whether it's a popular keyword, or commercial related. |

| Senior Member | "US" You must be a U.S.A citizen, and I dont believe there are restrictions on co.uk domains. I would look it up though, as I am not 100% sure about the .US
