Transferring A Domain

Really easy question..

I have a fairly large domain portfolio over 500, though i have never sold one of my names, i have decided to put some up for sale, and wondering 'IF' it sells how do i Transfer domains to another registrar.

I know i need an Auth Code, but what do i do with it ?

I had this conversation with my Registrar just then as pasted below and either i'm really dumb or that was bad customer service.

Nitin: Welcome to Domain Central Live Chat Service. How may I assist you today?

you: Just wondering how i go about transferring a domain name i have to another person on another registrar?

Nitin: Hello

Nitin: I will be happy to assist you.

Nitin: Please provide me your domain name.

you: The domains are not being transferred yet. I have some up for sale, so i was just wondering that 'If' it sells, how i go about transferring them?

Nitin: Please go through following help link to transfer domain towards us :- http://domaincentral.com.au/pemfaq/question.php?id=19
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/414824-transferring-a-domain.html

you: What about to Transfer the domain away though ??? Basically i have some domains for sale on NamePros.com cheaply like 20 Bucks, so they will probably sell. When they do i need to transfer the name to the new owner, dont i need to get the Auth Code or something? ... I looked in my control panel but i cant find it?

Nitin: You want Auth Code ... right ?

you: I think so.... I have hundreds of domains in my account. Several of them are for sale, so i may need to transfer them to a new owner most likely on another registrar. Apparently i need an Auth code?, ... also once i have that code what do i do with it?

Nitin: Please contact to your current registrar for Auth Code

you: Domain Central is my current registrar ???

Nitin: Okay, you want to move your domain from Domain Central to else where...?

you: Yep

Nitin: Please send your request at help@domaincentral.com.au for auth code.

you: ok. thanks

Hi,

Your buyers should have 2 choices: 1) if they have an account where your domains are or are willing to open an account there, you should be able to push the domain to their account and there will be an option somewhere (might be called "account change" or "move") to do that and there are generally no fees. This is the easiest thing for both of you. But 2) if they want to use a different registrar, they will have to request a TRANSFER, and they will need the domain AUTH or EPP code from you, the seller. They will also have to pay the transfer fee, which is generally a years registration and it should be added on to any registration time that is left.

If you help the buyer with a transfer, you will be getting an email to confirm that you agree to the transfer and will have to respond to that message. In some cases, like I hear with Godaddy, you can respond in your account and the process will take a number of days less time to happen.

Most registrars provide a link so you can get the EPP or AUTH code easily, but others seem to hide it, or make you contact them to get it.

Keep in mind that if there is only a week or two to the expiration that some registrars may not allow you to make the transfer, although a push should not be a problem. Also, if a domain is pushed at some places like Godaddy, it may not be transfered for up to 60 days after the push. To avoid this, try to keep the registrant information from changing during the push so the buyer can then transfer if they want to without waiting 60 days.

Depending on your security level, at some point you may have to unlock it in order to transfer it out.
