is it a good idea to register 'Word.com' where there is an american company using for example 'wordTravel.com' or 'wordmortgage.com' where the 'word' is not generic, it is a common name.

I don`t think there is a problem to register a 2 word domain witch contains "word" .There aren`t trademarks that you cannot use "word" . Register it !

Be careful and look at the legal advise section. You may want to post your question there. You'll see a domain "perfumeBay" was taken by ebay because it contained the word "ebay".

A lot depends on what the name is and how you use it.

i think there is to be a reason why exactly this "word" have not been registered yet. it may have trademark issue on it. check it first at uspto.gov website.

What i mean is is it a good pruchasing or not. does it have potential big sale?

Search popularity and search volume decides whether it has the potential or not. And we can't take a wild guess.

google result jus about 40,000
i check with google adwords:

it has low search volume
has no volume search trend
has no advertiser competition
and get other varian (last name or first name)
it word has double letter and typo fs it without double letter is taken.

i check at namecheap. other domain gone is only .cn

I imagine tandbergdata.com bought tandberg.com

for addittion the word is not american/engish/chinese name.
