why do people reg d-o-m-a-i-n.com?

I don't understand why people register domain names like d-o-m-a-i-n.com

I guess I'm missing something.

Because they have no clue and think that they can get rich over night. It amazes me when people reg a lame domain at GD or somewhere for cheap and then throw it in the forums with a $100 price tag on it.

- Stupid people - lame attempts at getting rich

Often times people new to the industry, who think that the name suggestion tools at Enom or Godaddy are actually as good as they appear.

Acts837 is right.
Many newcomers register d-o-m-a-i-n-s.com with the nievity that somehow just because it's a domain it should also sell for big $$$ like some other domain names that sell for 1000's even more that get PR via news sites and the like. They simply don't sell.

Yeah I would have to agree, a lot of people think that registering such domain names will give them some sort of gain. In my opinion a nice/short/keyworded domain would be the way to go. A domain with so many dashes definately lowers the value of the domain.

Well, I think it's basically because theperfectdomain.com is already taken, so they think t-h-e-p-e-r-f-e-c-t-d-o-m-a-i-n.com is the next best thing.

So, basically, they're clueless.

What I love is when they put a different TITLE on the auctions to get your attention -

Eg: SpecialDomain.com for sale here !!! - and when you open it -
it's really SpecialDomain.noideaExtention -

I think it might be for SEO reasons as someone mentioned. As I read that the search engines basically ignore the - symbol since its not a letter. So the search engine will index the word by its crawlers as if it were the real thing. Something along those lines...An SEO would know for sure.

I'm perfectly satisfied with my .TK domain because now there aren't any advertisements and its FREE! Pretty crazy if you ask me, but I'm not complaining!

No, because they still own the domain. I'll bet you can if you do a paid registration (Which they have, aswell) Just visit the site to find out for sure. Oh well. .tk Is just a nice short redirection so people dont have to type a long address!

Search engines do not ignore the - , they read it as a space..
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/39294-why-do-people-reg-d-o.html

So is someone search for "c a s i n o" then they might find c-a-s-i-n-o.something, but I believe very few do that..

example: online-casino-on-the-net.com
is not indexed as: onlinecasinoonthenet, but as: "online casino on the net".

They finally got rid of those EBIL pop-ups on the .tk extensions? Yeah... I've never used one, but they can be annoying...
