Best Links To Info For New People Entering This Industry ....

From the more experienced here, would you be kind enough on this thread, to post up links to the best information out there, to help new ones entering this industry?

Most will learn no doubt pretty darn quickly about parking etc their domains, how about some good sites to go to for starters, where actual development of a domain name / website can start to be implemented, along with package pricing options, host prividers, server reliability, web development tools etc?

Of course, all links are welcome, from bulk registrars, to Whois database info and many other subjects inbetween, trademark info etc.

Please provide a simple explanation of why you find the link given particularly helpful and try to keep your english as jargon free as possible - if you must use 'jargon', explain what it means, and what it does.

Many thanks.

(I'll post up mine below)

I like www.estibot.com for quick stats and a very rough idea of value.

I have started putting some info on the blog in my signature.

Those tools are always a bit suspect in my honest opinion, either outrageously high or in this case, erring on the other side of extraordinarily low.

I just tried it out with Recycle.co.uk which sold in June 07 for $308,000 and the valuation came back as $5,200 - a bit of a difference!!

If one is going to get a proper appraisal done, I would say to avoid these tools altogether and get one done professionally.

No tool is going to do it. Mostly the tools make the normal research easier and faster. Frequency, ad value and backlinks among other factors. Even human apprasials are not always very accurate.

Yep, there's no substitute for reading as much as you can.

Fortunately, I have time on my side at the moment, as with the approaching winter months and the much shorter daylight hours, the aerial photography at this time of year goes very quiet.

Spent the last three weeks researching non stop for at least 12-14 hours a day, seven days a week. Amazing how much knowledge you can acquire in a relatively short period of time. Mind you, I've stayed up most nights too, just getting snatches of sleep here and there. Already the family say I am totally obcessed with this subject.

Too, these forums only serve their purpose for a while if you are new to this business. There is no substitute for actually getting your hands dirty and putting into practice what you are learning.

You will not get decent domain prices on the forum generally speaking, as most of the buyers here are themselves resellers and have little attachment to the domain names which pass through their hands. The ideal customer I think are the SME's, the small and medium sized enterprises, end users who will have an emotional attachment to their ideal domain name.

This is where you will command the best prices on average for your bread and butter. If you can go to the other extreme and attract the Wall Street guys, well, kudos to you. Forums generally though are not your best place to sell at. Buying certainly, but not selling.

Many thanks to everyone who provided some tips and links, do feel free to keep them coming.
