![]() ![]() ![]() | Help getting away from 1and1 Hi I have about 20 names at 1and1 and after reading a bunch of negative comments about how poor their service is and most importantly the crap I would have to go through to stop them from auto renewing my names, I want OUT. What is the best way go move them one by one? Does anyone have any pointers? Thanks everyone. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It's easy, or should be. Here's what you should do: 1) Open an account with another domain registrar. I recommend Domainsite.com or Namepros.com, but there are others that are good. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/390692-help-getting-away-from-1and1.html 2) At 1and1 make sure the domain is "unlocked" and get the EPP or AUTH code. If your domains were just registered in the last 60 days you may not be able to transfer them yet. The AUTH code should be listed in your account somewhere. With some registrars it's not and in that case you may have to contact them. Look first, it may be hidded somewhere on a sub-menu. 3) At your new registrar, enter the domain to be tranfered and the AUTH code. You have to pay for 1 year of registration, but it should add on to the time you have left. 4) Depending on the registrars, you should get some emails and the transfer should take about 6 days, but it may vary. It would help to read what 1and1 has for rules about transfers so you can avoid surprises. If you can't find anything, you could call them and ask for a "friend" to see if they tell you anything that you should know about. Good luck!

![]() | i was thinking of registering some domains with 1and1 but after this thread i definitely changed my mind. even if prices are cheap it is not worth it if you get bad service.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I had a recent run in with 1&1!! After cancelling my card details with them, I started to get letters from them saying I owed them money for renewals!! Fortunatly for I keep all the emails confirming all the communications with them and I mean every email!! Took them on and ended up getting apology from them then they ask if I want to still use their services!!!! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I manage over 2400 names on four accounts at 1and1 for the past 3 1/2 years. They have extraordinarily low reg fees and I have never had a problem. The customer service is a toll free number; if you don't like the level of service from the first Indian orphan, I ask to speak to the head orphan. They also have call centers in the US. |

Most of my domains are with 1and1, that's around 250 domains, and I have to tell you that I'm not going to register anything else with then. But its not because of their customer service or their prices. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=390692 The reasons are that everything takes too long with 1and1's interface. From the domain list updating itself when going from page to page, to the hours it takes for the DNS names to change or newly registered names to become available. It's all so slooooow with 1and1. But the main reason I am frustrated with them is that you can't do some changes in bulk. To change the DNS names you have to go thru at least 3 different screens for... every... single... domain... name. Like I said, I am amazed that you have 2400 names with them. How do you do it? How long does it take you to change things on so many domains? I honestly feel I am losing money because I am too lazy to deal with tweaking 250 domains one at a time on 1and1. I can't imagine having to do it for 2400! Is there a bulk screen you are aware of that I am missing? Is there some way to automate things better on 1and1? I don't think so because I have asked them about it and they said bulk DNS changes are not possible. Anyway, their prices are good and they make it real easy to buy new domains since your credit card is on file, so I will give them that.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yes- the 1and1interface is slow- I think it's 128 bit encrypted. I try and manage my names as we buy them, so making forwarding or DNS changes is not that cumbersome. I don't change my settings often, so the global functionality (or lack of it) is not a huge issue for us. Overall, I like the interface MUCH better than Godaddy's- and I hate the clutter of Ads you face as a Godaddy customer- the constant upsell of services becomes tiresome and seems no to be professionally oriented.

![]() | I have roughly 60 domains with 1and1. I agree that the interface is painfully slow. DNS changes take FOREVER!!! For instance, I changed DNS on two names last night at 9:00PM EST and it still hasn't resolved yet!!! We're talking about 17 hours later and nothing. Luckily these were names that I just registered so I most likely won't be losing out on any traffic. When I change a DNS over at GoDaddy its almost instant. If you're into changing parking companies all the time then 1and1 is "definitely" not for you. But.... They do make it really easy to purchase names. Three clicks and its yours. Well.....almost yours..... You have to wait about 4 hours for it to be registered. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=390692 Customer service is pretty good though. I called a few times and got someone on the phone within a few minutes. Not bad at all for such a big company. Moving forward, I'll probably start registering more names with GoDaddy. Its just a pain to search for coupon codes all the time to reach the low price of 1and1. Oh well... no pain no gain. |
