Newbie needs info - please help

I am completely new at this, so bear with me if I ask questions which should be posted elsewhere. If I do, please direct me to the proper area to ask such questions. 1. I need to get educated about the ins and outs of this business, where is a good site to go to to learn the basics, the definitions, the process of thinking up a name and what is needed to get it 'parked' and revenue coming in with it. I have generated a list of roughly 500 names, and I am sure most, if not all of them, are crap. I have found a site called premiumdomains.com which will for free rate your name. Is this a reputable site and if so, what is the minimum rating at which I should consider my name to be worthy of registering? I have heard of 'kiting', is this still legal and if so is it a good idea and how do you do it? I have been using GoDaddy to type my ideas into to see if they are already taken, but you must type one name at a time. Is there a way or a site which will allow me to type in hundreds of names at a time to be checked? I have many other questions, but I will wait until I hear from some of you seasoned veterans to see how to proceed. Thanks for any and all help, Scott

Hey there. First of all I want to welcome you to Namepros. My suggestion is go to the Newbie section of Namepros and start from there. Restrain your self from buying any domain (no matter how tempting it is) until you adequately grasp the fundamentals of domaining. This will save you lots of money. Let me say it again. This will save you a lot of money. Click here on the the link below.

See you around.

In my opinion, you have found the best place. This place is called Namepros.com. Look around all the sections, and threads. Read about the problems and questions others before you have encountered. Because, you will likely encounter these problems too, sooner or later.

Varon has started this thread here http://www.namepros.com/parking-and-...n-parking.html that has some great tips for domain parking. I hope it will help you in the "process of thinking up a name".

As others have pointed out, don't register a name until you have researched on the name. This will save you lots of money. Because, a name that sounds good to you, may not appeal to the majority.

Anyway, if you do happen to register a name, which you later found out to be no so good, you can cancel it within 5 days of registration and get your refund. Not sure if other registrars have this policy or not, but I have been refunded by GoDaddy before.
