parking - bodis.co sudo.com etc

Everyone here seems to park their domains, it seems to me that they get a domain, park it because it comes with free advertising and a free landing page, and then voila they are away.

Is there any other benefits to the auctual parking of a domain at one of these places. A linux server could easily hold a few thousand domain name, and you would have the ability to be fully in control of the landing page / adds used / um everything about it.

so is there something im not seeing, or is it the fact that parking is free and a server costs? im only asking because I have a dedicated server for my site, and i was thinking of just buying 20ish domains to see what this is all about, and i was thinking of just take a week or so to set each one up with its own custom landing page and advertising system and just slap google analytics onto each site.

Good idea? bad idea?

most people park because it is cheaper than hosting them all and mainly because it is labor free, a lot of domainers have hundreds or thousands of domains and don't have the time to develop or mini site them all, I would say try 1 or 2 and if it goes well then continue, if not then you haven't wasted your time on 20 of them with no results to justify your labor.

good plan, thanks

one last question, if you were picking a domain, and it was a real cracker, lets say for example flyingsquirel.com (Thats not the cracker lol) would you register both flyingsquirel.com and theflyingsquirel.com or just one or the other?

Or how about flyingsquirel.biz .net and .org (Secure the whole set)

if developing a business site that will be your business it is common to grab a few extra extensions .com .net .org etc... or variations of your main domain and redirect them to your main site, if just parking a domain for resale .com is king and I wouldn't grab the rest unless the domain is a premo generic keyword, just my opinion.

k i got some domains, 7 in total to start with, i have a sedo act and a 1&1 account which i used to buy the domains.

In sedo it says
METHOD 1: NAME SERVER FORWARDING
At your registrar, change your Name Server settings to the following:

Primary Server Name: NS1.SEDOPARKING.COM

Secondary Server Name: NS2.SEDOPARKING.COM
Please allow 2-3 days for the Name Server registries to update and your parking pages to display correctly.

But, how does it know to apply the domain name to my sedo account and not someone elses. It just says wait 3 days then log in and track it from your account.

help please

nvm i figured it out.

Hi steve

If your trying out the parking game you might find it better to use 1plus.net. Just my option I find I make more money on 1plus.net than I ever did on sedo but then again it depends on the domain (I think).

Anyway Good luck and Dont forget to post the results

If you're buying names in hopes of making parking revenue, don't waste your time hand-regging domains. All the good domains that get type-in traffic are pretty much taken. Go to www.SnapNames.com or www.Pool.com and you can buy a dropped name at an affordable price. One good dropped name will make you more money than seven random hand-regs. Good luck.

Taste your domains for traffic. If there is traffic keep it or else delete it. And if you got the name for other use than parking, use it.

Not true. If it was, no one would be tasting domains.

well to be fair re the domains I got, i was going to buy one for a new site im designing, but i was partially to lazy to decide exactaly which domain I wanted and it was a good time to test this out.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=370742

Im not so much looking for geting income/traffic from these first domains, just testing the water and getting a better idea about how it works. Once I have a handle on how and why it works then i will build a more methodical method for picking correct income generating domains etc

thanks for all the support and encouragement so far, i know i have not been easy to date due to me being massivly skeptical, but buy the domain and movig it to sedo.com was pretty exciting IMHO
