How do you do a screen shot and Avatar?

Hi all, As I posted in my introduction to NamePros, I have a lot to learn. I'd like to know how to do a ScreenShot, I'm Thinking you just email the page to your self.

I would also like to know how to put a picture of my mug as an Avatar here at NP. I've went into my photos, found a photo of me and tried to go through the proces but it says the photo is to large. I've tried several and none seem to work.

In case it matters, the laptops I mostly use are Toshiba P205-S6267 with webcam's

screenshot: press "prt scr" on your keyboard - it should be somewhere on the top right. that will copy everything that's displayed on your monitor onto your clipboard. then just go into paint or a similar program and go to edit -> paste, and then save the image.

the avatars on namepros have a size restriction, so if you want to use one of your pictures as your avatar, you would have to open it in some kind of photo editor and shrink the resolution until the file size fits. i remember it being terribly small so you'll have to play around with it.

great info. Can one of you guys also please explain how you include a screenshot at NP, eg. when you list a traffic domain for sale?

After you click the 'reply' button and get this reply field I'm typing into right now, scroll down slightly and you'll see a 'manage attachments' button in the 'additional options' area. Click that button, click 'browse' to find the image you want to attach from your computer (screenshot, jpeg photo, art, whatever).

Some threads on NP let you embedd an image directly into your post. One of these section is the "Breakroom" and the "Design contest" threads as well.
If you can embedd an image, the icon will be on your tool bar right above the text window. Click on it, you'll get the [img][/img] tags, all you have to do is place the link where the image resides in between the tags.

For most other threads, you're restricted to link to an image. Follow Bannen's advice on this one

.
I'm almost ashamed to ask but where's the clip board? I see the prtsc button and pushed it but It's not on the notepad and as for a clip board I'm not sure where that is.

The clipboard is kind of 'invisible'; it's a small part of your computer's memory that's designated to hold whatever you cut or copy, including a screen shot. The clipboard automatically holds the screenshot or whatever you just cut/copy, until you actually paste it into something. In your case, you won't see a screenshot appear anywhere, you actually have to open an image program like paint or photoshop (not notepad, like you mentioned), make sure there's a new/blank document open, then hit Edit - 'paste', and the image or whatever's on your invisible clipboard will magically appear. If you don't click 'paste' then you won't see your image.
If you're doing all the above exactly, and there's still no screenshot pasted into your image program, then go back to the beginning and try pressing Ctrl + Alt + PrtSc and then following through the rest, some computers need those modifying keys to grab the screenshot.

If you're on a Mac, it works differently, there are keyboard shortcuts and then the screenshot is placed automatically as an image file into your HD folder.

Take note that since the clipboard is a memory function, when you turn off your computer the clipboard is emptied, and when you restart the computer whatever was on the clipboard is gone. Also note that, while the computer is on, whatever you put on your clipboard will STAY there until you cut or copy something else to the clipboard; in other words, once it's there, you can paste it into a billion documents over and over... until you replace it with something else.

lol no worries. as bannen said, the clipboard is kind of invisible, but pressing "prt scr" will copy whatever's on your monitor at the time. you won't be able to paste a screenshot into notepad because it is a text editor and can't handle images, which is what your screenshot is.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=368148

paint on the other hand can handle images, so after pressing "prt scr", you can go into paint and click on "edit -> paste" and the screenshot will appear there.

Where is paint located? I'm not seeing it. Does it actually say paint?

I've looked in Computer and Programs but see nothing.

Windows Vista, I can't believe these do not come with directions. Wish I'd have bought a Dell just because of that!
