The short answer is that an appraisal is someone or something (www.estibot.com) giving you a $value of your domain.

That value depends on a lot of factors, such as keyword popularity, length, extension (if it is a .com .net etc), search volume, brand ability etc etc.

Appraisal is the value that domainers or online tools give for your domain name. It is based on the quality of the domain name in question. They are only a guidance and an end user can always prove it wrong.
