web site construction

Now have about 25 domain names and would like hopefully to claw a little of the expense back!

I am looking to construct 2 of them but would appreciate any advice on how to start this up...it seems like a mine field out there

cheers

start by learning HTML, www.good-tutorials helps if you need to know something. Look for some php scripts and try and fiugre out what they're doing. Then try to make your own. If you want a simple news editor without much work use CuteNews. If you want a forum vBulletin is the best but I don't think its free, I prefer Invision over PHPbb. Another forum thats coming out is LiteBoards (http://www.liteboards.com) which is probably going to be a super fast-loading board because it does not use an sql database.

KISS

If you are just starting... "Keep It Simple, Sir". Buy a template here (see NP$ Sales and Auctions). Or, if you would like to learn to make your own web sites, don't get too fancy to begin with. You can see my first real attempt at http://Museum.Wibaux.US. Its simple and clean. And, make sure all of your links work before going live with it.

There is plenty of free and paid templates on the internet to get you started.. But i would start by learning some HTML as it will go a long way..

www.htmlgoodies.com is a great site

http://www.davesite.com/webstation/html/ Another great site for Learning HTML

Those 2 should keep you busy for a while

http://templatemonster.com is a good resource for paid templates. I would reccomend you to buy a template from there if you are going to buy one at all.

You can start with a free template from freesitetemplates.com. View the source code and play around with it by changing different values. The best way to learn is by doing for yourself.

Buy the book "Web Design in a Nutshell" if you can. Maybe not the best book but I read it from front to back in 2000 and felt that is when I achieved my greatest learning curve with HTML.

and don't forget...web authoring isn't just about learning to code in html etc...don't forget to read up on use of graphics in websites...and pay attention to the design of your site.

Personally i feel that there is not enough info out there on good design as it all concentrates on the coding.
