Is it really impossible to register new domains?

I have some domains that I hand regged.

They're all fresh, though a couple of them were dropped and have seen registrar changes.

I don't believe they are bad, but from what I've come to know from everybody in the domaining world, its almost impossible to reg a decent domain name...they've all been taken already

and I'm not talking about the $XXXX names, but cheaper names that will make me a decent profit.

And while I am asking questions, can anyone tell me what a 'bump' is?

I see a lot of senior members saying that all the good domains went years ago. IMHO, it depends on your definition of good.

Can you still hand reg domains that someone will pay you a bit more than reg fee for?
yes.
Can you still hand reg domains that will pay for themselves and a bit more with PPC parking?
yes.

re:"decent profit", again, I think it depends on what your definition of decent is.

"bump" is just to create a new post to bring the thread up into the recently updated threads. (only do this once within a 24hr period in your sales threads on NamePros)

thanks!

The new regs I have all seem to have some records. They don't sound bad, or look bad, and all the time, I kept wondering why are they still available, when all the pro domainers are around.

Thanks for the info on 'bump' btw. It confused me a lot and I think I made some injudicious use of the thing

It depends on what you mean by "Good domains"

????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/346737-is-really-impossible-register-new-domains.html
Of course most anything considered premium in the main TLD's has been gone for some time .... But I'm a HUGE fan of 2, 3, and even 4 word .com's - And there are still some of those out there worthwhile. Not to mention , There are always new people from different regions and languages coming online everyday - Therefore , There are new Search phrases and Trends created everyday. These newly registered Longer/Phrase type domains may not be getting 1,000 uniques per day ~ But depending on the "Category" , you may not need it.

If a long Real estate domain only gets 1 visitor per day (But the Visitors are searching for something specific somewhere specific) - Would the Domain be worthless to a Realtor/Broker/ Someone selling Leads ? Not at all .... The leads and contacts they could make from those 365 visitors per year could be worth $$$$$$$$$ to them.

I've found great domains in other languages still available, and that is a good sign.

I think that I just about made it before the door closes and people can't get into domaining any more.

I have a non-TMed two word .com domain that was hand-regged 7 months ago currently in escrow at the moment for $3,500 so yes it is possible, although sadly it is not the norm!

It can pay to keep ahead of the curve with new trends but you will also end up regging some real turkeys too!

It would seem to me several opportune areas exist:
I agree with Mark - many great 2-3 word .com domains are available and have low-volume and high-return value.
Another area is CCtlds - I am personally banking on .CA and .IN but many others are evolving.
I think there are still excellent choices for the wise new domainer.

i think everyday is a new day for registrations. just keep your ears and eyes open. keep them generic and simple. if you have the cash, hit up snapnames for a quick buy.

I deal with real estate and this is very true. With real estate domains you cant base the value on PPC or even on just the name. Real Estate names can be valuable because of the leads they generate. Even if you only get 10 unique visit per YEAR and only ONE of those visitors ends up buying a house from you, you can make $xx,xxx in commission (Boston prices) all because of that one deal from the lead on that domain. So then you would have made 5 figures from just one visitor and you still own the domain and it doesnt even have to be a premium name.

Excuse my question, but where do you find that kind of leads?

Captain Clay is an unknown quantity at this point

I think there'll always be opportunities if you have a broad niche and stay ahead of the game. For instance, if your niche was computer education, there's always new programs/versions being released, hence new names to pounce on. But it depends on your niche, because there's undoubtedly other people banking on those same domains. It's the quick and the dead in this game.

AIDS/HIV
I think most people don't like new hand-regged names because of a phenomenon known as "google sandbox." It is sometimes a long wait for some new domains to make it to the top of the search engine, which is why most domainers who buy and sell for profit instead of development look for names that have existing traffic and backlinks.

If you are registering a new domain for a business and can get links on other websites, there is nothing wrong with new domain names as long as you are actively promoting the site in other ways.

Good luck!
