Hello. What is the worth of a one word .net name? For example something like leave or happen. Something that is not a physical product, but an English dictionary name. I am considering spending $50 on this name with the hopes that it is worth something. Thank you

It depends on the word.

Try to use common sense. If it's a word like unwittingly, that wont make sense to anyone. You have to think if it will mean something to anyone in the right context, but don't be clever or rationalize, cause people wont do that.

You can do any of the following to estimate the value.

1).try checking overture for that word here. higher the ovt, more the value.

2).Are most of the popular extensions already registered?

3).(time consuming) Try to compare as many similar recent sales from various sources like NameBio.com, DnSaleprice.com, DNJournal.com etc.,

4). Get an Appraisal From Estibot.com

What is Estibot and how much do they charge for an appraisal of a name? Should you always get an estimate before purchasing or should you purchase the name first so that you have it locked in?

It will give you an computer generated etimate of what your domain is worth. This tool is probably the best one of it's type and it is free. Remember though that it is only a rough guide!
