well, at a minimum:

- get yourself an html template from somewhere like oswd.org
- type up some original content, put it into the template
- put in some adsense blocks or affiliate links
- upload it to a web hosting account
- start promoting it, e.g. put a link to it in your sig

noisez -

I'd point you to this thread from Hitch about Web Development Resources:

http://www.namepros.com/website-deve...resources.html

It's full of links that'll keep you very busy. But don't let the vast amount of links scare you.

Be sure to focus on the sections 'Content Management Systems (CMS)/ Portals' and 'Blogs' - like Wordpress and Joomla - and then go down and check out 'Skins / Themes / Templates'.

Deciding which system would be best for you can easily get overwhelming with so many choices, so you might start with the 'skins, themes and templates' links. Sites like ThemesBase.com can be a lot of fun to search through. Find a free design you really like, and that'll help you decide which CMS/blog you might like to try.

Once you have the design, then it's pretty easy going forward with content and advertising.

Good luck.

Perhaps i went the easy way, But all my sites in my signiture are with WhyPark.com, I have made the headers and logo's and some template
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/335836-how-do-you-develop-sites.html
revisions, But at the cost of $1 per site , with no hosting fee's, aswell as
myself not knowing how to code, This fit my budget, and works for me
great. I think people tend to get confused with WhyPark.com, It is NOT
a domain name parking service, They provide content based on your
keywords, You are not tied down to using there content, You can use any
content you like, I use my own content on many of sites there, They are
my websites, and i can sell them , just the same if i had had them custom
coded and ect, It's a great way to have websites, With out paying an arm
and leg , imo.

I would get some ideas rolling before making it into a website. After some thought on it Go and find some opensource script which are available for free and as suitable for your website theme.

Upload that script and if you know some basic editing then edit it. Put some good header, some design modifications if possible and unique content to go with it.

Monetize it with ads and then start on with marketing.

The only problem with doing that, especially as a newbie, is that if you aren't familiar with the coding language, you can never be sure your website was coded properly.

ApeXX,

Thats the risk you take. But thus far, for me, I have had some success with it.

One option also (I've used this) is to order paid original content at about $20 per 400-word article, with emphasis on SEO keywords and set it up as a minisite using Google Apps or Wordpress, only takes a few minutes once you learn how. Then just stick Adsense next to the article. One good article and sidebar ads work well I've found. Get a very high click-through rate.

I've used getcontent.com and I've found they deliver decent stuff for the price.

Developing is very important, even a minisite is better than a parked page in most cases (at least for the non-premium domains) IMO

For this technique to work, the domain name should be a pure keyword domain with some type-in traffic, even if it's just a few hits a month.

Also keyword domains get google traffic even if they're low-ranked. People do search for "mysearchterm" instead of "my search term" and keyword domains rank very well on those searches.

One of my own examples of this approach:

Good luck

healymedia- Adsense T&C prohibit reporting exact numbers, but I can say that I get very low traffic but a very high click-through rate indeed.

There are some great free tutorials at http://www.w3schools.com. You can learn html, css, html, php, and more.

It is very overwhelming to get started. There's wordpress, joomla, drupal, hand-coding, dreamweaver, and the list goes on and on.

My advice - start with w3schools.

Hey you need to get web hosting, you should try using fantastico, it comes installed with your web hosting.

It offers alot of cms and websites you can make, its really easy to install the sites to, you just need to read the manual of the site you want.

Alot of people say use a freelance service, but I wouldnt. There is some shady people on those sites that will scam you and waste your time.

Your better off learning yourself so you can manage your site properly.

That's Right. 2 Clicks and you have wordpress. Another clicks and you install a nice template (there are many free WP around).

Then you can post some content:free-to reprint articles, PLR, Affiliate Feeds
and so on.

Good Luck.

Another how-to for absolute beginners:

http://innerblogger.com/blogging/200...inner-blogger/

It's a step-by-step guide to creating, publishing and optimizing content with Wordpress.

You could start from that first post and move along post by post (of course you can skip the domain selection bit)....I blogged every technical step of the way while creating that blog. Includes everything from installing Wordpress to making your blog entries and optimizing for search engines. Hope you find something useful there

Good luck,

From the somewhat perfunctory instructions on your page, I get the idea that you are using something called Drupal?

I'm interested in finding a new CMS. However, it seems impossible to get any info about this Drupal....every time I google "drupal", I get the http://drupal.org website at the top of the SERPs....but when I click drupal.org (any page, forum or anything), this is what I get:

Quote:
Unable to connect to database server

If you still have to install Drupal, proceed to the installation page.

If you have already finished installed Drupal, this either means that the username and password information in your settings.php file is incorrect or that we can't connect to the MySQL database server. This could mean your hosting provider's database server is down.

The MySQL error was: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 111.
What does this mean? Do they need access to my mySQL databases before I can even view their site??
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=335836

When I click the link to their "installation page", I get the exact same error?

Or are they just having problems with their own database?

Somehow this doesn't give a very good impression about the Drupal CMS, at least its user-friendliness...I mean, if they can't get their own site to work...

Oh, I know it can be hard though.

Is anyone else here using Drupal? The sites made with Drupal look nice enough, but where to get more info?

Thanks-
Josh

All of you more experienced posters seem to say the same thing - reg a domain, use a free template, make (or buy) some content, host the site...
Where do you host? are there free hosting services, or do you pay for this?

Always pay for good hosting. It will save you from so many headaches. Look for a host that allows unlimited domains and offers unlimited/or lots of data transfer/databases.
