![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Changing Nameservers Although I understand that it takes some time for a domain's nameservers to update, surely once the change shows up on the whois, the nameserver change should come into effect? Does anyone know if this is the case / how long it normally takes? Many Thanks. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It can take anywhere from 1 minute to 48 hours depending on the register and your location in the world. If you live in US or Canada and you use GoDaddy, Domainsite, or a few others.. it is pretty much instant. - Steve

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | There is a master DNS server for your domain. From there it propagates though the internet by cascading to routers all over the world. Some routers update in minutes, some only once a day or so. Some large sites also cache the information and even though updated would show it for a day or so because they don't use the live information to save bandwidth. I've seen almost instantly to 72 hours, but usually within 6-24 hours.
