should i buy a .com or .info?

GoDaddy is selling a .info domain for $0.99 for the first year, so I'm thinking of getting it. The thing is, I'm not sure how much it is to renew it next year and the year after and so forth. They have a domain pricing table for .info here but I think the lower yearly renewal rates only apply if I pay it all at once right? Anyway, my question is, on the long run, is it more worth it to buy a .info or .com? I'm still a student, so I can't really afford to spend loads on a domain for my fansite, which is after all non-profit (I don't have advertising, etc).

Thanks!

Domain registration should cost only 6.99$/year, and you can usually get free hosting at some places. For the long run, .com will be the best.

This rule applies for any serious investor or one with a specific domain or area in mind.
Thanks for the replies. Erm, but what's a premium domain? The thing is, my site's just a small one (although I like to think it's a big fan site in the world of Josh Groban fans).

So anyway, it does appear after looking further into the godaddy.com pricing chart and after reading your opinions that .com seems cheaper in the long run.

Actually, with my current domain, JustJosh.org, that is owned by my host hollywood.com and now, I want to actually own my website. Of course, hollywood.com is not going to let me take over justjosh.org, so I'm looking at buying my own domain. What I'm worried about though, is starting all over again and building the reputation of the new domain.

Are you able to actually publish anything to JustJosh.org?

Maybe snag your new domain [.com if one works for your idea], get it up and running, then make a note in JustJosh.org something to the effect of "this site will be located at NewSite.com, please add it to your bookmarks"

Ryan, that's a good idea. Yep, I think I'll do something like that. JustJosh.org is a mask URL, but I can redirect the index page of the actual site.

I think choosing a TLD depends on your sites content.
.INFO works well with things that fit that title. E.g. plants.info, Info about plants
.COM is really the way to go, unless you have a bona fide reason not to use it.

.info are very popular between black hat guys and SE's know that.
I'm not saying they won't rank (cause other factors apply) but my
choice is .com.

john's TLD Domain is an unknown quantity at this point

I would say that if it's just a very small website you might be ok with a .info in any case if you can get the .com version always better. it looks better and it not that expensive unless somebody already bought it already. (.net) is the next best choice if not well any will after that. when it all comes down to it a name is a name. if you can get the dot com then do it it worth it.

Always go for a .com as opposed to a .info if both are available, a .com is always worth heaps more
