How Much Would a Name with 1500 Backlinks be Worth?

I'm not posting this under appraisals because I have no name to be appraised.

Assume the name is a gaming related .com that is 6 characters in length, expired, and has no PR. However, it does have 1500 backlinks.

I haven't bought the name yet because I have a limited budget and want to make sure I'm making a wise investment.

Should I register this name or look for another name?

Just be careful the incoming links are real, and not auto spammed. If they are real, get the name and get the site up quickly before the links begin to dissapear.

1500 backlinks does not guarantee good traffic but it's worth a try. Choose a registrar that allows domain tasting so if you are disappointed with traffic you just delete the name within 5 days and get a refund to your account.

Is there a list somewhere of registrars that allow "tasting"? I thought that by default, all of them should allow the 5 day rule thing.

Not all registrars extend the facility to their customers but as a rule if you call them, they should be able to cancel the name for you. With GD I think you have to call. With Moniker it's possible minus a non-refundable fee ($.25), with Dynadot it's free. Possible with registerfly too if you are in masochistic mood...

It could be worth A LOT or it could be worthless. The quality of links and the traffic from them is what determines the value.

An (overly) easy way to value it would be to take the monthly parking revenue of the domain, and multiply it by 60 to get a reseller value and 1000 to get a retail value.

it would be tedious, but check the sites that link to it, looking closely at the anchor text and sites pr and the page content. If they are all pretty decent and related and you can build a site that lives up to the links... go Go GO

I looked over the name's backlinks and they are all from a single forum. I guess the owner of the name put the name in his signature and made several thousand posts.

Looks worthless to me. I won't be regging it.
