Why is the .info extension cheaper?

I notice that many domain registrars offer the .info extensions at a much cheaper price than .com, .net and others.

What´s the reason for this discount?

Thats just how much they cost, .info's have always been cheaper and will remain so for the forseeable future.

What I notice is that they are at a discount when you buy them, but when you have to renew them 1 year later then they are the same price as the others.

Do they have the lowest value in terms of importance?

Remember, the lower price of .info is only for the first year.

...and they are perfect for high-paying-keyword-rich informational sites. I have some, that pay for themselves very quickly. There are still a number available.

Let them be cheaper, good for us!

infos are cheap because outside of the domaining industry not many people know about them. .coms,.nets and .orgs are the most recognisable extension for ordinary netizens so .infos are sold for a lower price so as to increase awareness and encourage people to develop them.

ITs good that .infos are sold at a low price because otherwise they might have ended up like the .biz extension which is also not very widely known but is sold at the same price as .coms and so it has not become popular at all. .infos despite being cheaper to register have more value than .biz domains.
