Whois protection/correct whois details

One of the reasons i wanted to shift to namecheap was because of the whois protection thing. Now here is my question - how important is it to have correct details in the whois anyway?I have seen pretty big sites also having incorrect details

1. Whois privacy is provided by almost all the domain registrars like godaddy, namecheap, domainsite,enom etc.
2.According to ICANN, you are supposed to keep original data. However, I think they are not going to catch you if you don't put correct phone number.

Hey, i know its provided but whats the risk of providing the right information about yourself? Most of them don't provide the correct information and i'm sure people do this because of some reason. Thats exactly what i wanna know

i suggest hiding your whois information, use a site such as: http://dnoa.org

unfortunately, they are allowing new users until the 1st march

i got hookedup with namecheap..its great and provides me free whois protection
