Directly advertising to end users legal?

Hi i'm relative new to the domain name industry however i think i have a good idea wich domains sells and wich not.
My question is if you have a domain name for a target niche can you email the end users directly with your offer.
For example you have register a domain name about travel in spain. Is it allowed to email a few companies who're offering travel trips in spain.
With legal i mean is this spam or not?
I think if you register a good domain name someone will pay a few hundred dollars for it but i don't think that these companies are looking day and night on sedo or afternic to find a good domain name.

hey i am pretty sure this is legal, but i am hoping someone with more knowledge and experience can back that up.

I have read here at NP a good deal about people emailing end users with a nice detailed message marketing the domain to them. I tried this a couple times with one of my domains. I got responses from the potential end user simply stating that they are not interested in buying any domains. I had no luck, but I didnt try very hard. Apparently, this method works for some people.

Thats a simple question but answer is complex.. I think no one knows the perfect answer.. However my view is that if you have a domain which you think would be useful for buyer then you can email him in a nicer way and it would be ok..

Example of bad email

sufi gave a good example there. some things to keep in mind:

- be professional, yet polite and friendly
- spelling and grammar
- sound personable

these things are good to keep in mind too when you're on the other side, and are emailing someone with a domain that you wish to buy.

There's nothing illegal about offering to sell a domain to anyone. However, if you register a domain with the sole purpose of making profit off someone's trademark by selling it to someone specific, then offering to sell it to them will count against you.

For example, finding out Microsoft is about to launch Vista, so someone goes and registers vista.com, and then emails Microsoft offering to sell them.

This would make it blatently obvious the person intended to exploit them. If they had waited for Microsoft to approach them about it instead, they might be able to argue they didnt know about their name or trademark.

I sold a .info domain to the .biz owner for 60 EUR after emailing them. It was a domain I registered when I was new to domaining. I was looking for ways to get rid of my dummy names.
